Standardize features by removing the mean and scaling to unit variance.
A sample \(x\) is standardized as:

z = \frac{(x - \mu)}{\sigma}
\]
where
- \(\mu\) is the mean of the samples
- \(\sigma\) is the standard deviation of the samples.
